- Conductor
Julian Williamson has been associated with a large number of orchestras
and choirs over more than thirty-five years.
- He
has performed regularly on the South Bank, at St. John's, Smith Square
and the Barbican Hall where, apart from his many concerts with the
Camden Choir, he has appeared with the London Bach Orchestra and the
English Festival Chorus.
- His
work has taken him not only to many parts of Great Britain, but also
to Germany, Holland, Zimbabwe and the United States (where he directed
a performance of Bach's St Matthew Passion in Philadelphia).
- Apart
from directing all the standard repertoire, he has always been keen
to promote contemporary music.
- Over
the years, he has been involved with the work of many twentieth-century
composers. They include Ernst Bloch, Elena Firsova, John Gardner,
Iain Hamilton, Alun Hodinott, Ernst Krenek, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies
and Michael Nyman.
- He
has also been closely associated with David Fanshawe and African
Sanctus, conducting several performances.
- He is a popular
lecturer in various venues around Britain, specialising in music
and literature. He annually leads courses on opera during the summer
in Italy.
- During
recent seasons, he has conducted the Camden Choir in works as varied
as J.S. Bach's St Matthew Passion, Anerio’s Missa
Pro Defunctis, Ernest Bloch's Avodath
Hakodeth: Sacred Service and Poulenc's Exultate Deo.
